Yes, that's the block that came off, probably just as well its gone, could have hurt someone. Grade is more like 10d now. Just having a look out to the left. Have a bolt in as a directional See how it cleans up, thin for sure.

did you pull off the lose block at the bottom left corner? That was nice for stemming across to, but was always suspect. how hard now. Are you putting a line up the face to the left of birds nest? looks tough.

On Birds Nest on Cathedral Rock, the start of the corner is quite a bit harder now. I pulled off some loose blocks when I was top roping a traverse out to the face on the left. Fortunatley the protection in the corner is still excellent.

Topic: Island Climbing / Looking for a partner

I live in Victoria, i'm 34, male. I've been climbing for about 10 years. I could climb a 5.10 right now... and higher with more climbing than once every 4 months. I haven't been climbing much in recent years. I would like to climb with someone and be pushed a bit. I like to climb outside. I don't mind leading. I'd be up for cragging from here to Nanaimo... or even alpine stuff. Drew

Yes, those are the ones, thanks for the info. I also tried going to the link you mention for more info but couldn't find anything about bolted routes at Sutton. Maybe I am looking at or for the wrong thing?

if we are talking about the bolted routes. 4 routes are close together behind the maple trees. From left to right, 5.9 corner/face crack, 5.11 tecky face, 5.11- face, 5.8 face on right side. Now about 50m right are 2 more routes. An easy still a little dirty corner crack{short], the next bolted route to the right is 5.10b'ish. climbs out right up a groove then some cool moves left past on overlap to cracks. All the routes are bolted except the easy crack. The below link has more info. http://members.shaw.ca/suttonboulders/

Topic: Island Climbing / New Boulder problems at Sutton Creek

I have spend a part of each summer the last few years on the Island and have put up a few problems at Sutton Creek. I feel this is a great place to climb and hope more people will "discover" it and more problems will go in. Now if someone can please tell me how to post the topo I have for these new problems I would appreciate the help!

The anchors are about 10ft from the top, just above a small overlap. don't worry you'll see them

Hey John, are the anchors above the bulge? I only ask because I was led to believe the top part of that route was higher than 10- . Its been so long since i aided that route I can't wait to try it on lead.

We traveled to Nanaimo to climb at The Steppes and were surprised to find the access trail blocked by chain link fencing and a security guard. The security guard mentioned that a developer from Alberta had bought the property and that it was off limits to the general public. If you are thinking about going to this crag you might want to go somewhere else. Perhaps, Island Climbing or the Access Society could post something on the site to let people know what’s going on. Too bad, this was a decent spot to climb.

Topic: Island Climbing / Wapiti Access

Caught wind of a group up in the Wapiti this month. Sounds like the bridge at Nathan Creek is still out- will take about 1/2 to hike to the camp. Trail got a bit of hacking, but route finding is still difficult in some places. JR
